The Tallwood Literary Magazine (LitMag) is a website for creative students to share their talents. Anyone can submit a piece of writing or visual/musical art; from essays to poems, pastels to watercolors, jazz to pop music. This is for YOU.
Are you affiliated with Tallwood High School?
Recently, we became an official club sponsored by Tallwood High School. So, yes, we are affiliated with Tallwood and you must attend Tallwood to submit your work.
How did the LitMag begin?
In the 2019-2020 school year, the "old" LitMag club was founded by our amazing English teacher, which we loved being a part of. You can visit the site here: ths-litx.weebly.com/. As the 2020-2021 school year began, we realized that there might not be a LitMag again this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. So, we took it upon ourselves to meet virtually and created this website so the LitMag can live on.
How do I submit?
Please see our submissions page for directions.
As a musical artist, what kind of songs can I submit?
We accept any genre, from pop to classical to jazz. However, pieces deemed inappropriate by the LitMag staff will not be accepted. Songs may be an original composition by you or a cover of another song (please specify which one in your submission). If it is a cover, you MUST take all the necessary steps to ensure you are not copyrighting another artists's work. Your piece can be performed by one instrument, multiple instruments, a capella, or voice with instrumental accompaniment.
As a writer, what kinds of pieces can I submit?
Although our club is geared more towards creative writing, such as poetry and short stories, any type of writing is accepted so long as it's deemed appropriate by the LitMag staff. This includes research papers, opinion essays, excerpts from a novel that you're writing, a collection of poems, etc. Your submission MUST be your own, original work!
As a visual artist, what types of pieces can I submit?
We are more geared towards drawings, paintings, and photography, but any kind of visual art is accepted; from pottery and sculpting to oil pastels. All we ask is that you submit your work in the form of a photo (see our submissions page for details) and that it's appropriate. Your submission MUST be your own, original work!
I have a question and/or suggestion. How can I contact the LitMag Staff?
You can email us at [email protected] or [email protected]. Please include your name, email, and grade. We also have an Instagram @tallwoodlitera1!
Will there be prompts?
Yes, there will be seasonal prompts posted in the "prompt" page under the "submissions" tab. However, free form is always an option. If you submit a piece related to a prompt, please say so when you submit.
Is there a guarantee that my piece will be published?
No. Due to the number of submissions we receive and the selectivity of the LitMag, we cannot publish all submissions. However, we may publish some pieces in a later issue.
How often will issues be published?
While we used to have monthly issues, we are switching things up this year! Issues will now be seasonal. Estimated dates of publication will be released closer to the date, however, expect an issue around Thanksgiving (Autumn), mid-January (Winter), mid-April (Spring), and late May (Summer).
